Blue admiral （Nymphalidae subfamily）
Both front and back surfaces are black, with a band of blue closer to the outer edge. Since there are no other similar species, they are easy to distinguish. Born in colder climates annually, (usually around August and September) they live through the winter months to adulthood.
The larvae eat Smilax china of the rose family.
