Found on three of the four main Japanese islands: Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu by the coastline, in the deciduous forests and the broadleaf evergreen forests.
Japanese macaques that live in Aomori Prefecture in the Shimokita Peninsula, is known as monkey in the northern limit.
They usually cohabitate in a group of about 20 monkeys.
